Acutane Information

There are many forms of acne treatment but Accutane is used to treat the most severe cases that may not even respond to antibiotics. With this severe acne, patients may develop permanent scars if left untreated.

The normal treatment time span is four to five months and that usually controls acne for at least a year
.
Accutane controls acne by decreaing the amount of oil that the skin produces. It is possible for the acne to get worse when first on the medicine until improvements are seen. You will usually see dry skin and lips as Accutane starts to work. Accutane can usually help these most severe cases, but there are many dangerous side effects so talking to your doctor first is highly recommended.
Some serious side effects:

• dry skin,
• dry lip
• dry nose
• nosebleeds
• joint pains dry eyes
• pink eye.

Accutane also has a very high risk of birth defects. Women that are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant should avoid taking accutane. It is mandatory that you take a pregnancy test before you are prescribed accutane and must be tested every month before the next prescription is given.

Severe Mental Problems have resulted from taking Accutane.
Increased pressure of the brain

1. Blurred Vision
2. Risk of stomach, liver, pancreas, intestine, and esophagus damage.
3. Bone problems. It is usually not recommended to perform rigorous activity while on the drug
4. Muscle weakness
5. Loss of Hearing- this could be permanent
Increase of cholesterol in blood
6. Fever or Rash as an allergic reaction
Headaches
7. Depression and suicide have been reported

Accutane is a very controversial drug. Many people want to have it pulled from the shelves because of the severe birth defects and mental disabilities that it causes. The abortion rate of women that are on accutane also increases because of the birth defect risk. There have also been a handful of lawmakers that would like Accutane to be pulled until more research is done on the birth defects and the mental problems that are associated with the drug.
