Aleve Information Aleve was put on the market in 1994 and is an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drug that reduces hormones that cause inflammation in the body. It is used to reduce pain, muscle and joint stiffness, and treat abdominal cramps among other things. While taking aleve, you should use sunscreen if outdoors and wear protective clothing because aleve is known to cause sensitity to sunlight. You also want to avoid more than three alcoholic beverages a day to reduce the chance of bleeding of the stomach. It is recommended to take no more than two pills a day. Recently, Aleve has become the first non-prescription medicine to be put on the list of medicines that are linked to stokes and heart attacks. A study of Alxheimers patients that were taking naproxen (aleve) had a 50% increased risk of heart attack and stroke than patients that were on a placebo. . |
